Noblevale BESS

ZEBRE is seeking to install a battery energy storage system on a repurposed mining site in the Swanbank Industrial Area near Bundamba Creek, Ipswich, in south-east Queensland.

The 180 MW/360 MWh Noblevale Battery will store excess electricity and provide equivalent power for up to 50,000 homes for at least 2 continuous hours during times of significant electricity demand.

The project will play an important role in replacing ageing existing energy infrastructure and providing essential storage capacity for Ipswich and south-east Queensland.

ZEBRE in the Community

ZEBRE is committed to delivering a Community Benefits Scheme that includes funding for local issues and prioritises the community, such as local procurement and employment. We are seeking community feedback to ensure the design and operation of the project reflects local needs.

Status

ZEBRE is currently in the feasibility stage for this project, which includes a range of site studies, preparations of the development application and grid connection enquiry.

ZEBRE has engaged with Ipswich Regional Council and has had several pre-lodgement meetings to inform the development application.

Powerlink has indicated that there is sufficient hosting capacity at the Blackstone Substation for the Noblevale BESS to connect to the grid.

Timeline

Next steps include commencing the grid connection application and submission of the development application, targeted to be submitted mid 2025.

ZEBRE will continue to engage with local stakeholders and the community to ensure the project is designed and built to minimise impacts and deliver local benefits.

The project timeline is, in total, expected to be 3 to 4 years in length, subject to development approvals.
